Obituary

Funeral services for Harry Johnson, age 96 of Bottineau,  were held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau.  Officiating at the service was Pastor Craig Jennings.  Karen Jennings was the pianist and special music was provided by Arlan and Tessie Nelson.  Casket bearers were Doyle Strand, Jess Gilje, Gabriel Strand, Karsten Strand, Tarris Johnson, Tim Johnson and Don Kleven. Burial will be at the Westland Cemetery in Rolette in the spring.

Harry Johnson, a son of Bernt and Karn Johnson, was born on May 1, 1923 in Rugby.  He grew up on the family farm south of Rolette and graduated from Rolette High school in 1941.  On July 2, 1967, he married Delores Houim-Gilje at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Rolette.  Following their marriage, they moved to Bottineau.  Harry worked for Simek Construction for a time and later worked in maintenance at the Dakota College at Bottineau.  Delores passed away on February 25, 2009.

Harry was a member of the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau.  He enjoyed, gardening, woodworking and playing musical instruments.  Harry and Delores enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Alaska and spending winters in Arizona.

Harry passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at a Bottineau hospital.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon and her husband Doyle Strand of Bottineau; daughter-in-law, Darlene Gilje of Exeter, MO and Betty Gilje of Bottineau; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons Larry and Lowell; great grandson, Connor Stamper and 17 brothers and sisters.

Arrangement were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
