Marks
May 26, 1956 — Aug 21, 2024
Greg Marks, 68, passed away on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, at SMP Health St Andrews in Bottineau, ND. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer. Visitation will be Monday starting at 1:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Peace Reformed Cemetery near Upham.
Greg Marks was born in Bottineau, on May 26, 1956. His parents, Alvin Marks and Adeline (Mettler) Marks welcomed him into their bustling household as the fifth of nine children.
Greg began his educational journey at Kramer Middle School, where he was a proud Bulldog until the 8th grade. He then continued his high school education at Upham High School. In 1974, he graduated from Upham High School, marking the end of an important chapter in his life.
After graduating high school, Greg's professional journey began when he joined Walter Otto Construction in Upham, ND. Following this, he contributed to the construction of the Beulah Power Plant. However, in 1979, he made the decision to return to his family's farm in Kramer, ND, after the sudden loss of his father. In 1988, he set out on an exciting new adventure and traveled to Alaska to join Peak Oilfield Service Inc. During his time there, he was involved in the construction of ice roads, tackling challenging and unique projects in the rugged terrain of Alaska. After his Alaskan venture, he returned to North Dakota in 2008, eventually retiring a couple of years later after serving the County as a blade operator.
Greg would spend long, leisurely hours searching for the perfect treasure at auctions, often finding unique items he would proudly show his family and friends. The discovery of online auctions elevated his fascination to new heights. Greg was known for his frequent phone calls to family and friends, often taking the time to catch up and share stories. He especially enjoyed exchanging playful banter with his nieces and nephews over the phone. He prized his collection of rare auction finds, but the biggest treasure of all was the joy his great-nephews and great-nieces brought into his life. Their infectious energy filled his world with light and laughter, creating cherished memories of shared bowls of ice cream, FaceTime conversations, and relaxing moments sipping root beers together.
Greg, a man who never held back his opinion, will be deeply missed by many.
