Peterson
Oct 14, 1935 — Jul 8, 2025
Grace Peterson, age 89 of Bottineau, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2024 at a Bottineau nursing home. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 11:00 am at the Lake Metigoshe Christian Center. Visitation will begin an hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
Grace (Novotny) Peterson, daughter to John Novotny and Elizabeth (Kline) Novotny was born on October 14, 1935.
Grace graduated from high school at Rock Lake, North Dakota. She continued her education afterwards to pursue a degree in teaching. She taught in Newburg, and she substitute taught in Dunseith. At the time she was teaching in Newburg, she shared a house with her soon to be sister-in-law Ruth. Ruth would take Grace back home with her on the weekends where she ended up meeting her future husband, Oscar Peterson. A year before their first son was born, they got married at Ruth and Pete's farm.
Grace was very passionate about gardening and planting flowers. She spiced up her house in the hills with plenty of beautiful flowers and had a large vegetable garden in the backyard. She eventually moved into a small apartment in town, and she brought her love for plants with her. Not only did she have a love for horticulture, but Grace enjoyed her walking. Grace would be spotted in the hills walking with at least three or four cats and a dog right by her side. She could walk for miles in any condition. Whether it be sunny, a little breezy, or it could be a total blizzard out, Grace would be out walking. She never missed an opportunity to get outside and get her steps in.
Grace enjoyed traveling to see family and exploring new areas with friends. She liked her teatime at the bakery with friends and being involved with Metigoshe Lutheran as much as possible. She had a hobby of sewing as well, in which she did most of her work at Metigoshe Ministries along with other ladies. She loved to support and brag about her grandchildren. Complimenting them with schoolwork, sports, or really anything they did in life. She became one of the best babysitters, cheerleaders, and grandma all in one.
Grace was what you'd call the perfect housewife on the farm. She would garden, help with the farm animals, help with some of the farming, clean house, etc. The vegetables she grew in her garden, she later canned to last them through the winter months with fresh grown produce. She was an outstanding baker who made some of the most delicious goodies such as nut goodies or turtle cookies. Not only could she bake, but she was a wonderful cook as well. Grace was filled with many talents and used her skills to the best of her ability on the farm where she raised two little boys.
Grace is survived by her children; Jon Peterson of Bottineau and Joel Peterson of New Jersey; 6 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Donald Novotny and Ruth Novotny, and her husband, Oscar Peterson.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
