Obituary

Glenn Brandjord, age 83 of Bottineau, died Saturday, October 10, 2020 at a Bottineau nursing home.  His visitation will be on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Glenn Orland Brandjord was born on August 4, 1937 at Bottineau to Hans and Mabel (Norstegaard) Brandjord. He was raised on the family farm north of Roth and attended the country school across the road from the farm through the eighth grade. He then attended Bottineau High School where he participated in football and FFA. He was named State Farmer by the FFA and was Vice President of the 1955 Bottineau High School graduating class.

Glenn loved the farm. As a young boy when he heard a piece of equipment start up early in the morning he was down the stairs and out the door yelling "Daddy wait for me" Along with helping on the farm he also worked at C.R. Gleason Motor Co. while in high school and for a time after he graduated. He purchased a new 1957 Belair while he worked there. Glenn also attended the Ag Short Course at NDSU two winters and was a member of the Army National Guard.

On June 30, 1961 Glenn married the love of his life Vicki (Victoria Brenden). They grew up on farms only two miles apart but never really met until the summer of 1960 and the rest is history. In the fall of 1961 Glenn was called to active duty with the National Guard during the Berlin Wall Crisis and he and Vicki spent nearly a year at Fort Lewis, WA. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was a platoon leader.

Glenn and Vicki welcomed their first child Matthew in August of 1962. In early 1963 Glenn was involved in a shop fire and suffered 3rd degree burns on one-third of his body. He beat the odds and made a full recovery due to the care of Dr. Mari and the staff at St. Andrews and the dedication of Vicki and friends and family and Glenn's determination to get back on his feet and take care of his young family.

In 1964 Glenn, Vicki, Hans and Mabel received the Bottineau County Soil Conservation award. In March of 1965 Ann was born and the Brandjord family grew to four. Ann was Glenn's little Ladybug. In January of 1968, Wallace Glenn was born and the family was complete.  Glenn served on a number of boards including: Farmers Union Oil Souris (of which Hans was a charter member), the Bottineau Courant, Charter board member of All Seasons Water Users, ASCS county committee, and the NFO. He was also a member of the Bottineau Eagles and Toastmasters. Glenn was a member of Lesje Lutheran Church and served on the Church and Parish councils. Glenn was also a member of Metigoshe Lutheran

Glenn also worked as a licensed plumber for his good friend Owen Kornkven for several winters. He attended the Veterans Farm Class in Bottineau.

Glenn loved to experiment and fabricate in the farm shop and find ways to improve his equipment. This ingenuity led to the development and patent of the Brandjord (Roll) Tarp for grain trucks in the early 1970s. Over the next several years hundreds of trucks came to Glenn's shop to have the tarps installed. Many of these customers also shared in one of Vicki's delicious meals in the Brandjord home. Just another example of their strong partnership. Several neighbors (Terry, Stess, Lance, Lyle, Bradley, and Alf) spent their winters working with Glenn in the shop. He enjoyed the activity and the chance to work with his friends and meet other farmers from around the area. He sold the Canadian rights to the Brandjord Tarp to the Nestibo family and they operated their business in Melita, MB.

In 1982 one of Glenn's dreams came true when Matt joined the his parents in the the operation of the family farm. Glenn and Vicki were honored by Bottineau Crop Improvement as their Golden Harvest recipients.

Next to being Vicki's husband, Glenn realized his next greatest role when his first grandchild Amanda was born a week before Christmas in 1994. Then came Brittany, Laura Ellen, Juliann, Paxton, Parker, Abi, Averi and David. He loved being 'Papa' and loved spending time and working on projects with his 9 grandchildren. Glenn also developed a special bond with great grandson Jax over the past year.

Glenn's life revolved around the 4 F's: Family, Friends, Faith and the Farm.

He went to farm in Heaven on Saturday, October 10, 2020.  This pandemic is very real and dangerous.  Please be careful and protect yourselves and your loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Vicki, son Matt and wife Susan and daughters Laura Ellen and Juliann, daugher Ann and husband Jeff Monson and children Amanda, Brittany (great grandson Jax), and David, son Wally and wife Tracy and children Paxton, Parker, Abi and Averi.
