Gladys Azure, age 76 of Dunseith, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at a Dunseith nursing home.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church.  A rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 10:30 am at the church.

Gladys was born on July 19, 1947 in Belcourt, ND to Louis and Clemence (Jerome) Roussin. She grew up and attended Roussin and Dunseith schools.

She was united in marriage to George S. Azure on January 22, 1966. They made their home in Dunseith and together they raised five wonderful children. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before George's passing in 2012.

Glady worked 51 years in the food industry. She worked at San Haven for 19.5 years until it closed. She then worked at Turtle Mountain Corporation, Dales Café and ended her career working 22 years at Dunseith Public School.

Being the person she was, she came out of retirement and worked an additional five more years at Dunseith Day School and Dunseith Public School in the kitchen.

Gladys was a devoted wife and mother to her children and grandchildren; they were her pride and joy. She took special enjoyment in supporting them in their endeavors and had fond memories of attending many sporting events. She liked attending derbies to support the #33 car driven by her oldest grandson, Garren Counts.

Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family, Bingo, playing slots at the casino, enjoyed going to benefits to support others, liked to bet on the Triple Crown, cooking and taking care of others. To know Gladys, was to know her cooking and she had many special dishes requested by others for benefits, holidays, and parties.

The thing she loved the most was spending time with the love of her life, George. They enjoyed hanging out with friends and going out dancing to some good country music.

She dedicated countless hours to helping others, always ready with a comforting meal, an open ear, and a helping hand. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her legacy is etched in the countless lives she touched.

Gladys was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her children; Lyle "Pug" Azure of Dunseith, Sherry (Stacy) Counts of Dunseith, Daniel "Shane" (Erika) Azure of Portland, ND, Shannon "Zack" (Kerry) Azure of Dunseith; son-in-law, Marshall Parisien of St. John, ND; grandchildren, Garren (Cilla) Counts, Shayla (Tanner) Counts, Kelby & Kennison Azure, Kayla & Kylie Parisien, Shawnta (Jon) Hirschel, Taylor (Skylar) Keplin, Trey Everett and Braxton Azure; great grandchildren, Kade, Hayes, Rhenlee, & Skylee; sister, Mabel Roussin; Godchildren, Sandi Karlson and Michelle Kurle and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Azure; daughter, Lisa Azure; parents, Louis and Clemence Roussin; mother and father-in-law, Frank "Lum" and Agnes Azure; brothers, Pete Roussin, Rodney Roussin and Louis Roussin; sisters, Theresa Heath and Delores Belgarde.
