Obituary

Gerald Sather, age 77 of Bottineau. died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at a Bismarck hospital.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 10:00 am the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Gerald Sather, a son of Ole and Margaret (Dixon) Sather, was born on April 23, 1943 in Bottineau.  He was raised in Bottineau and graduated from Bottineau High In 1962.  He worked as a farm hand before being drafted into the US Army in 1964.  Gerald served overseas in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1966.  He then went on to become a butcher which he enjoyed.  He also served in the National Guard in the 1980's.

Gerald married Lois Tretbar on May 1, 1971 in Ponsford, MN.  They made their home in Minnesota for s short time before returning to Bottineau.  This union later ended but Gerald and Lois remained very close friends.  He worked in and around Bottineau area in the oil and construction industries.

He enjoyed smoking his pipe and the smell of his pipe will always be remembered.  He had a love of history and enjoyed spending time at the library  looking through old books. He liked tinkering on old tractors and fixing one his "sheepwagon".  Gerald looked forward to spring time when he could start planting his big garden at the farm.  He enjoyed the time spent with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He is survived by Lois Sather; brothers, Brian, Myron and Gary; nephews, Brent Sather, Dave Sather, Jarrod Sather, Todd Sather, Andy (Melissa) Sather; nieces, Dawn (Scott) McGuire, Angie (Tyler) Stratton, Dana (Brett) Houck and Roxanne (Robby) Meylor; great nieces and nephews, Kayla, Cortney, Cody, Colton, Hailey, Isabelle, Ryan, Alexis, Jayden, Reese, Kesler, Emma, Ellie, Abel and Lainey.

In addition to his parents, hew was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Ramona Sather and a Niece, Amanda Sather.
