Geneveive Wanda Monson, 89, passed away on November 22, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Bottineau, North Dakota surrounded by her family. Geneveive was born to William C. and Jennie (Vestre) Fairweather on September 4, 1934 in Bottineau, North Dakota. She was the ninth of eleven children. She grew up on the Fairweather Farm north of Souris, North Dakota. She graduated from Souris High School. Geneveive married the love of her life, Arlan Monson on February 13, 1954. They were married for 55 years before Arlan passed away in December 2009.

They made their home in Bottineau, North Dakota where they welcomed their 1st child. Four more children would be welcomed into their home, before making their permanent dream home in the hills. Nine more Children would bless their home.

While in High School, Geneveive played basketball and was the star of her team. This was also where she met Arlan. She would make a career out of raising not only her own family but any others that would come along. There was always room at the Monson home, whether it be a meal or a place to stay. Anyone who knew Geneveive would know that she took great pride in her husband, children, grandchildren and let's not forget her black angus cattle.

Geneveive was best known for her work ethic. She worked hard and instilled that work ethic in her children. She worked from sun up to sun down starting with milking the cow, putting up hay, baking bread and all the other goodies, teaching the boys how to do the outside work while Arlan was working his "Day Job." The girls were taught the inside chores. The "little kids" got away with a little more than the older ones.

She is survived by 5 daughters and 6 sons: Pam (Tony) Cirulli, Mike (Lori) Monson, Barbara (Ted) Meyer, Jeff (Ann) Monson, Mark (Melissa) Monson, Debra (Tom) Wisla, Scott (Jessica) Monson, Tim (Janell) Monson, Doug (Sheila) Monson, Susan (Al) Kirchmeier, Sandy (Rick) Gottbreht and Daughter-in-law, Patty Monson; 29 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. One sister Ona (Ronald) Monson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlan Monson; her children, Colleen, Larry, and Jim; son-in-law, Morris Gratton; grandchildren, Jennifer and Julie.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
