Gary Kippen, age 76 of Bottineau, died Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at a Bismarck hospital. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the United Parish in Bottineau. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
Gary Kippen, a son of John and Hazel (Harrison) Kippen, was born on February 6, 1943 at Bottineau. He grew up on the family farm near Omemee and attended grade school in Omemee. He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1961. He went to Wahpeton earned a degree in drafting. On August 5, 1964, he entered the US Army and served until receiving his honorable discharge on September 1966. Gary returned to the farm. On October 8, 1966, he married Marlys Roland at the Manger Lutheran Church. He continued farming. Through the years, Gary also worked at the Bottineau Fertilizer Plant, in maintenance at the Dakota College and as a circuit tester at Benchmark Industries.
Gary was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Omemee and later the United Parish in Bottineau. He was a member of the Bottineau American Legion, VFW and Am Vets. He was also a member of the National Farmers Organization and served as a 4-H leader. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, telling jokes, watching sports and listening to Elvis Presley and country music.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys of Bottineau; sons, Patrick (Heather) Kippen of Minot and Kevin Kippen of Bismarck; daughter, Kindy Sime (Rodney Hopp) of Litchfield, MN; grandchildren, MiKayla Kippen and Tyler Kippen; Garrett Sime, Shelby Hopp, Mikayla Kippen and Tyler Kippen; brother, Robert (Feller) Kippen; sister-in-law, Patricia Hill (Morris Sprenger); brother-in-law, Larry Roland (Julie Rude) and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Caryle "Bud" (Janice) Kippen; sister, Norma (Larry) Hoepfer, nephew, Bob Kippen; sister-in-law, Sis Kippen; brothers-in-law, Rod Hill and Michael Roland; mother and father-in-law, Leonard "Slim" and Margaret Roland.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net .
