Obituary

Estella Viola (Monson) Kamrud of Bottineau passed away December 18, 2020 at Golden Acres Manor Nursing Home in Carrington. She was one week shy of reaching her 100th birthday. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau.

"Stella" was born on December 25, 1920 in the Turtle Mountains north of Bottineau to Olaf Monson and Agnes (Gustafson) Monson. She attended the Eidsvold and Sjule Schools in the Turtle Mountains and Souris area. Being the eldest of 6 children, she worked hard on the farm and also worked for a farm wife in Souris. She and her three sisters often sang together when they were younger and she played the accordion. They loved to sing together even in their later years. She married Irvin Kamrud in 1944. They farmed on the Kamrud home farm north of Bottineau where they raised 5 children. While being a farm wife, she worked at O.S. Lien Jewelry and Corby's Trading post, She also worked as a cook at NDSU-Bottineau for 13 years. They collected and sold antiques and toy tractors. Irvin passed away in 1999.

They were members of Grace Lutheran Brethren Church. Her family remembers Stella as always smiling, the sweetest spunky lady. She had a lovely sense of humor and tried to tell jokes, but always laughed too hard to finish her story. She had a passion for gardening and hosting family picnics. She was a tremendous cook, not a Christmas went by without lefse, lutefisk, swedish meatballs and laughter. Her love of family is present in the memories we share. We share how resilient and positive she was through life. She showed her family what true love is.
