Eloise was born on March 1, 1928, to Anna (Pearson) and Howard Fish at her grandparent’s farm near Harlow, ND. She was a welcome birthday gift to her father and the first of 4 children.
At the age of two, her family moved to Rolette, ND. She attended Wolf Creek Rural School for 9 years, spent 1 year at BCATS in Maddock, returning to graduate from Rolette High School in 1945. After graduation she attended Minot College and Mayville College. She became an English teacher, following in her mother’s footsteps.
On May 8, 1948, she married Donald Boppre. She joined him and his two young daughters, Donna and June, at their home in rural Rolette County. Howard John was born in April 1949. In January of 1954, Eloise and Donald welcomed their daughter Ann Marie to the family. In the late 1950’s, they built their own home in Bottineau County. In 1995 they moved to Bottineau where she has resided since.
Eloise taught for 35 years and touched the lives of thousands of students, many to this day still remember a lesson or two they learned from her.
She was an avid reader, who marked all her books with her initials, so if you come across an E.B. in the cover of a book, you know that there is a huge chance she read it before you. She was a consummate crocheter and loved many different types of crafting projects. She was interested in gardening and genealogy. Her interest in genealogy, resulted in a trip she and her sister Daphne took to Germany, to follow the Boppre and Fish generations into the past. That trip was the beginning of her expansive travel across the United States, spending many hours on trains and in the car with her daughter Ann and son in law Mark, resulting in her having visited 49 states, missing only Alaska.
She was active in Senior Citizens Club and Meals on Wheels, also Sons of Norway, Retired Teachers Association, Rugby Swingin’ Singles. She attended First Lutheran Church faithfully, spending many hours folding bulletins, helping sew quilts and enjoying coffee time with the ladies.
Eloise will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Perry, Dunseith, ND and Donna (Walt) Weaver, Bismarck, ND. Grandchildren - Jana (Kris) Bellamy, Washburn, ND. Franki (Steven) Wolhart, Bottineau, ND. Kim Boguslawski, Dunseith, ND. Kay (Tim) Jacobson, Grand Forks, ND.
