Ellen Cushing, age 91 of Bottineau, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at a Minot hospital.  Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Ellen Marion Blada was born September 5,1934 in Kane Township of Bottineau County, Rural Newburg, N.Dak. She was the daughter of Edward and Elnora (Herslip) Blada. Ellen graduated from Newburg High School in 1952, and the St. Andrews School of Nursing in 1955. She married Wendal Cushing on December 26, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Upham, following their marriage they moved to several Montana cities, where Wendal was employed by Mobil Oil Company. From 1956 until 1964 they lived in several university cities while Wendal attended college, and Ellen was employed as a registered Nurse.  She lived in Bottineau 1956-1958, Mayville 1958-1960, Cavalier 1960-1963, Fargo 1963-1964 and Bottineau 1964 to the present time.

Ellen was also employed as a registered Nurse in the States of Montana, Arizona and at St. Andrew's Health Care Center and The Good Samaritan Center in Bottineau before retiring from in 1986.  Wendal passed away on November 11, 2016.

Ellen was a dedicated nurse, always offering her special care and gentle Hand, when many of her friends and relatives were-in need of critical Nursing care. Many nights she offered her professional care to relatives so family members could go home and feel their loved ones would receive capable nursing care.

Ellen was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran church in Bottineau.  She was active with the Girl Scouts and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She was proud of her sewing and quilting skills.  She often gave many of her completed projects to friends and relatives.  She took pride taking care of her flowers and gardens.  She also loved playing cards.

Ellen is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Randal Miller of Bismarck; sons, Byrnell Cushing and his wife Janice of Minot and Steve Cushing and his wife Alice of Peoria, AZ, 8 grandchildren, Kevin, Jessica, Karen, Zachary, Benjamin, Kailee, Tatum and Bryson; 3 great grandchildren Kaylee, Emma, Tanner and many nieces and nephews.
