Funeral services for Earl Thompson, age 87 of Bottineau, were held on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Lake Metigoshe Christian Center. Officiating at the service was Pastor Cole Bentley. Casket bearers were David Thompson, Dustin Thompson, McCormick Thompson, Tylo Mahoney, Sophia Thompson, Johanna Thompson and Case Thompson. Military Honors were presented by the North Dakota National Guard and the Bottineau County Veterans. Burial was at the Nordland Cemetery.
Earl Thompson, a son of Gilbert and Judith (Torgerson) Thompson, was born on October 15, 1930 on the family farm north of Bottineau. He grew up there and attended country school. He worked for Ed Milbrath for a time. On February 28, 1952, he entered the US Army. He served in Korea and he received his Honorable Discharge on February 11, 1954. He then returned to the family farm. On October 2, 1965 he married Sharon Krogen at the Nordland Lutheran Church. Sharon passed away on November 17, 2001.
Earl was a member of the Metigoshe Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on the Bottineau Farmer's Elevator Board, as Township Supervisor and a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Earl passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 on his farm north of Bottineau.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Daniel) Mahoney of Minot, and Joann Thompson (Bill) of Decatur , Il; two sons, David (Heather) of Bottineau, and Richard (Stephanie) of Oro Valley, AZ; 24 Grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lyle (Vivian) Thompson of Bottineau, Kenneth (Marlene) Thompson of Rapid City and Maynard Thompson of Florida; sister, Janice Norderhus of Cedar Rapids, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Dawson and Garrett; sister, Muriel Lystad and brother John Thompson.
