Duane Handeland, age 77 of Dunseith, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at his home near Dunseith.  His memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.

Duane Allan Handeland, a son of Clarence and Jennie (Hurst) Handeland, was born on September 7, 1947 in Rolette, ND.  He was raised on a farm north of Dunseith.  On February 10, 1968, he married Barbara Landsverk in Bottineau.  This marriage later ended.  He continued to live near Dunseith.  Over the years, he worked as a roughneck in the oil fields, did custom combining, and worked for Hutton Construction.

Duane was a jack of all trades.  He loved tinkering with anything with a motor.  He also was skilled at replacing zippers in coats and other heavy materials.  Duane taught himself to play the guitar and loved jamming and singing with others to old country music. He still had his guitar, Old Blue.

Duane is survived by his children; Tracy (Ben) Aufforth of Bottineau, Todd (Kristine) Handeland of Bottineau; Brittany (Lindsay) Ledeman of Bowman; Blaine Ledeman of Fargo and Alisha (Seth) Brien of Dunseith; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine (Orly) Kjelshus and Charlotte (Roger) Hahn and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Beverly Hamnes, Muriel Hanson, Donny Handeland, Elaine LaLone, Delores Johnson and Kenny Handeland.
