A memorial service for Doug Johnson, age 57 of Bottineau, was held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 am at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Officiating at the service was Pastor Ben Carlsen.  Jordan Johnson was the Eulogist.  Honorary casket bearers were Doug's nieces and nephews, Stephanie Farley, Zachary Slifka, Jonna Hruby, Adrienne Stout, Jillian Stout, Jeremy Johnson and Shelby Johnson.  Military Honors were presented by the Bottineau County Veterans. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan.

Douglas Eugene Johnson was born in Bottineau, ND on August 30, 1961 to Lester (Red) and Leila (Thom) Johnson. He was raised in Bottineau and graduated from BHS in 1980.

Doug enlisted in the Army after graduation and served in Georgia, Germany and Pennsylvania. He returned to North Dakota after leaving the service. He worked as a brick layer for many years and recently worked on the Bottineau County Jail building. He was working at the Bottineau Country Club this season.

Doug was a caregiver for his mother the last years of her life and for his father when he underwent cancer treatment. His family is grateful for the care he provided.

Doug passed away on Friday, September, 21 2018 at his home in Bottineau.

He is survived by two children Dee (Mike) Vanhove of Minot, ND, Jordan (Leah) Johnson of Fargo, ND and one grandchild Grantley Johnson of Fargo, ND. He is survived by his father Red Johnson of Bottineau, ND, a brother Matt (Myra) Johnson of Bottineau, ND and two sisters Doreen (Pat) Slifka, of Cresco, IA and Myrna (Joe) Heegard, Owatonna, MN and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother Leila Johnson.
