Doris R Gunville "Migizi Migwan Ikwe" "Eagle Feather Women", age 81 of Dunseith, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the Dunseith Community Nursing Home. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Dunseith. Visitation will be at 11:00 am, Rosary at 12:00 pm and funeral at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery at Dunseith.
Doris was born on September 18, 1942 at Belcourt, ND to Andrew and Laverne (Chase) Gunville. She was raised in Dunseith and attended Wahpeton Indian School through 8th Grade. She went on to earn her GED in 1987.
Doris was a Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend who cherished and loved everyone dearly. Doris was one who could look at something and figure out what needed to be done to either repair or make the same thing without needing a pattern or instructions. Doris made many quilts during her time and always had baby quilts available.
Doris was also known for making the best fry bread and her recipe of having soft fluffy bread which she would state you only knead it so many times before cutting into bangs and frying. When Doris would make a pie, she was very particular about how her pie crust looked and was very specific about the design, she would usually use a patchwork or half diamond shaped design.
Doris was also a very dedicated BINGO player, as most know she had the luck of a leprechaun, She BINGOED many jackpots including a car in 1991. Doris' last Bingo adventure was in Las Vegas in 2013. Doris was employed at San Haven State Hospital for 18 years, she was also employed with a sewing company for a couple years, and then was employed at Turtle Mountain Casino from about 1990-1993.
During her later years, Doris enjoyed helping her companion John on the farm. This led to some of Doris' witty and humorous stories. One story that she would often talk about was when she was chased by a cow and had to climb over the fence. She always said she didn't know how she moved so fast over that fence. She chuckled about that often.
Doris is survived by her children, Wayne R. Gunville (Stephanie), Linda M. Gunville, Emily Allen (Marvin), Robert F. Peltier, Peggy J. Gillis, and Donald G. Gunville. Thirty grandchildren, Thirty-eight great grandchildren. Doris is also survived by her sisters Shirley Lafountain, Deloris Gunville, Susan Allery, Sandra Gunville, Brothers Larry Gunville and George Gunville.
Doris is proceeded in death by her parents Andrew and Laverne (Mary), Brother Randall, Sister Dorothy, Youngest son Duane, Great Grandsons Brennon & baby Edward, Great Granddaughter Alyziah, and Niece Amy, and her special companion of 34 years, John Monette as she enters the eternal life.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
