Donna
Poitra
Aug 30, 1956 — Jun 9, 2020
Funeral services for Donna Kaye (Poitra) Belgarde were held on Monday, June 15 in the St. Michael's the Archangel Church. Donna passed away on June 9, 2020 in a Grand Forks hospital. Burial was held in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Dunseith. She was born August 30, 1956, in Belcourt, ND, to Alfred and Virginia Poitra. She passed away June 9, 2020, at the age of 63 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Donna attended Dunseith Indian Day School. Later received her G.E.D and attended college at Turtle Mountain Community College receiving her Carpentry degree. She married Ronald Forschen and it later ended, together they had two sons, Ronald aka Pumpkin (Candace) and Robert aka Bobby (Sonja) both of Dunseith. She then married Carson Belgarde, the love of her life.
During her younger years, Donna found solace in books, a glass of tea, and some chicken and noodle soup, then top with a good old "ciggy", however shy; her family brought out the best in her. When she did not have a book in her hand and you could find her napping. Wherever she went with her family, smiles and giggles always followed, she was comedian at heart. She loved trees, music and singing, you could always hear her above the crowd she knew all the words to the songs, but she could not carry a tune to save her life. She'd always surprise people with witty come backs, and nice little gestures she'd give her brothers while meeting her passing by. She'd come up with the funniest sayings, like, "who is that singing, Feddie Bummper (Freddie Fender)"
Her beautiful smile and carefree attitude always set her family's mind at ease.
Donnas love for her two sons was so immense, they looked at her with pure love the second each were born. As a mother she would do anything for her two boys. Anytime they needed her, no matter where or what time she was there. She loved them unconditionally. Her loving and kind heart will always be forever in their hearts.
Like her two boys, her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. They brought pure joy into her life. When she thought life could not get any better, her great grandchildren arrived. In 20--, her great grandson Ashton was born and never left Grandma Donnas side. Donna and her late husband Carson cared for Ashton until their untimely deaths.
Donna is survived by her two sons, Bobby Forschen and Ronald (Candace) Forschen, Dunseith. She is also survived by her Sisters, Susan Poitra, Ola Houle, Bonnie Poitra, Pam Poitra, all of Dunseith, Pearl Poitra, Wisconsin, and her Brothers, Nolan (Lynda) Poitra and Curtis Poitra, all of Dunseith. She is also survived by her God Children Trisha Poitra, Dunseith, Gena Houle, Belcourt and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Carson Belgarde, parents, Virginia and Alfred Poitra, and her grandson Christopher B. Forschen.
