Obituary

Donald J Richard, age 90 of Bottineau, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at a Bottineau hospital.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 am at the St. Mark's Catholic Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Friday starting at 2:00 pm with a rosary service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home.

Donald Joseph Richard was born on May 6,1934 in Rolette, ND to George and Anna Richard. He was raised in Dunseith along with seven siblings. Don married Marlys Luella Johnson, the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Johnson on January 18, 1955.

Don and Marlys moved to Bottineau, ND in 1962 where Don became an agent for Franklin Life Insurance Company and later joined Jackson National Life as an area manager. He continued to work in insurance, investments, and securities for over 40 years. Don and his family have been members of St. Mark's Catholic Church from 1962 to present. He served as president of St. Mark's Parish Council, sang in choir, and became the parish's first Eucharistic Minister. He was a man of priorities as evidenced by the relationships he valued. Don had clarity for first, his relationship with God, his love for Marlys, followed by love for his six children.

Don is survived by his wife, Marlys and their children: Valerie Indridson, Cavalier, ND, Jocelyn (Frank) Norling, Warroad, MN, Cynthia (Tim) Kihle, Lake Metigoshe, ND, Melissa (David) Stanley, Minot, ND, Gerard Richard, Minot, ND, and Michele (Todd) Pigeon, Rolette, ND; Grandchildren: Kristin (Tony Nelson) Sharp, Mindy (Christiaan Snyman) Indridson, Miranda (Brett) Scholler, Adam (Karen) Norling, Brandon (Sara) Norling, Simon Norling, Victoria (Gregg) Hoppe, Zachery Kihle, Alexis (Talon Jones) Kihle, Jacques Stanley, Blaise (McKenna Thiessen) Stanley, Aaron Richard, Amy (Andy Jordan) Richard, Andrea (Jaxon Dewald) Richard, Collin Pigeon, and Katelyn Pigeon;

Great-grandchildren: Micayla, Kinzee, Paityn, Breton, Leif, Burke, Lindy, Ella, and Bentley; Sister-in-law: Carmen Richard and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest (Beatrice) Richard, Eugene Richard, Art (Emeline) Richard, and Floyd Richard; sisters, Irene (Art) Lagasse, and Stella (Louis) Schimetz; and Son-in-law, Butch Indridson.
