Obituary

Donald Hermanson, age 93 of Bottineau, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at a Garrison, ND hospital.  His funeral will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Donald H. Hermanson, a son of Hans and Della (Torgeson) Hermanson, was born on October 9, 1930 in Bottineau.  He attended country school and on November 26, 1948, he joined the US Army.  He served in the infantry in Korea where he was awarded the Purple Heart.  He received his honorable discharge on December 8, 1951 with the rank of Corporal.  He worked in South Dakota for a short time and in 1952, he began working at the Garrison Reservoir.  On August 27, 1954, he married Darlene Marie Grimm at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Don started working in the oil field in 1954.  They moved to Minot for a short time and they returned to Bottineau in 1955.  In 1960 they moved to Mohall and they spent the next 23 years following work in the oil fields of North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.  In 1983, they moved to Gillette, WY.   Don earned his GED in 1985 at the age of 65.  Don retired from the oil field in 1991 and began driving charter buses.  He retired in 2007 and on April 11, 2007 they moved to Bottineau.    Darlene passed away on June 15, 2007.  Don continued to make Bottineau his home until moving into the Wellington in Minot.

Don was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  He was a member and past commander of the VFW.

Don is survived by his sisters-in-law, Nina Hermanson, Ardell Grimm, Sharon (John) Hahn, Ruby (Tex) Keidrowski and Toni (Ron) Peck; brother-in-law, Dan Williamson; cousin, Irene Tonneson and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Darlene and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marvel Hermanson and his dog, Velvet.
