Obituary

Donald Hawkins, age 84 of Westhope, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his home in Westhope.  A private family service was held.

Donald Ray Hawkins, a son of Raymond and Rose (Farhar) Hawkins, was born on September 29, 1939 in Chickasha, OK.  He lived in Chickasha and later Shawnee, OK.  He drove truck for custom combiners.  His work brought him to North Dakota where he met Rhona Conway.  They were married  on October 17, 1975, at Wichita Falls, Texas. They lived in Chickasha, OK where they Operated a hotel, an implement dealership and a car dealership. In 1978, they moved to Westhope.  He worked for Ward Williston for a time.  He then worked for Earl Schwartz.  He drove truck, pumped oil wells and managed overall operations before eventually taking ownership and starting B&B Oilfield Services.  He also owned and operated a video and fish store in Westhope.  He retired in 2006. Rhona passed away on November 20, 2019.

Donald enjoyed playing pool, bowling, darts, cards and watching football.  He prided himself with hard work above everything else.

He is survived by his daughter, Hollie Helseth (John) of Westhope; sons, Bradley Conway(Maarja) of West Fargo, Brooks Hawkins (Bonnie) of Westhope and Brett Hawkins of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jerica (Daniel), Alexis, Faith (Kyle), Dawson, Hannah, Destiny, Gracie, Colton, Dalton, Dayton, and Dixon; great-grandchildren, Mila, Maleigha, Hadley, Warner and Landon;; 5 step-grandchildren, Megan, Marisa, Christian, Cierra, Jerica Marie; brothers, Dennis Hawkins of Oklahoma and Mark (Karen) Hawkins of Texas; sister, Janet Shurtz of California; sisters-in-law, Darlene Conway of Minnesota, Susan Hawkins of Texas; brothers-in-law, Rodney (Shirley) Conway of Westhope and David Hart of Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was preceded in death by his a son, Gavin Hawkins; mother and father-in-law, Frances and Roger Conway; daughter, Jana Hawkins; brothers, Gary, sisters, Sheila and Anita; brother-in-law, Vance Conway; sister-in-law, Nita and nephew, Robbie Conway.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
