Delores Christenson, age 92 of Bottineau, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at a Bottineau nursing home. Her funeral will be held on Monday. January 15, 2019 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Dovre Lutheran Cemetery in Newburg.
Delores was born August 1, 1926 to Roy and Martha (Neumann) Thiel. She grew up on a farm near Kramer. After high school she attended one year of college and then taught school for a time after that.
Delores married Ivan Christenson on November 10, 1946. To this union was born Diane, Larry and Lowell. Delores and Ivan lived on a couple different farms between Kramer and Newburg until 1980 when they moved to Newburg. In 2008 they moved to Bottineau and later Delores became a resident at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Bottineau.
Delores was active with the Ladies Aid at Dovre Lutheran Church, she was a director on the Westhope Nursing Home board, and also helped her husband, Ivan, manage the city of Newburg's apartment building.
Delores was a very active lady always doing something whether it was cooking, cleaning, gardening, handiwork or quilting. She was a very good cook making meals not only for family but for many hired men over the years on the farm. On Ivan's request she learned how to make lefsa and in time perfected the art and then taught Ivan who carried on even after Delores was unable to help.
Delores is survived by daughter Diane of Bottineau, son Larry (Veronica) of Kramer, grandchildren, Tami Coleman, Cole (Cara) Christenson, Kaela (Josh) Block and Everette Benson, seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, sister Marlys (Don) Weyer, sister-in-law Darlyne Froseth, brother-in-law Gordon (Arlene), Virgil (Sylvia), Allen (Barb), sister-in-law Marge Sund and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Ivan she was preceded in death by son Lowell, brother Gordon, sister Deverne, brother-in-law Glen, and sister-in-law Jean Hitchcock.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
