Obituary

David St. Clair, age 49 of Dunseith, passe away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 near Dunseith. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10:00 am the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith. His wake will be on Thursday starting at 4:00 pm at the church.

David St. Clair was born on December 2, 1976, to Peter Paul St. Clair and Diana Lesperance in Grafton, ND. David lived with his parents in Crystal, ND, until his mother’s passing in 1978. At that time, he lived with his aunt and uncle, Linda and Slim Martinez, for a short while before eventually moving in with his father and stepmother, Mary, who took him home.

David was raised and attended school in Dunseith, ND, where he lived his entire life. He loved to play basketball. In 1994, he was known as the “spark plug” of the team when they went to state and took 3rd place. He loved to hunt, play cards, and go to the casino, but he especially loved being with family and friends. David got to know a lot of people who became family to him.

David had many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He would always say, “I loved em everyone.” He always had a smile and loved to tease everyone. He was always the life of the party and knew how to make everyone laugh in good times and bad.

David had five children: Devon Davis, Hunter St. Clair, Casen St. Clair, David St. Clair Jr., and Leah Amyotte. He loved his children and always tried to make sure they had everything they needed. They were his pride and joy. He taught them how to cut wood, skin a deer, and drive.

David had a very special niece, Tionnie Baker. David had one grandchild, Scout Davis, whom he loved so very much and was very proud of.

Throughout his life, David held many jobs. Most recently, he was employed by the Turtle Mountain Tribe as a carpenter.

He is survived his children: Devon Davis, Hunter St. Clair, Casen St. Clair, David St. Clair Jr., and Leah Amyotte; one grandson, Scout Davis; special niece, Tionnie Baker; siblings Arlene Azure of Dunseith, ND, Dan (Carol) Lesperance of Dunseith, ND, Julie (John) McConnell of Willow River, MN; and sister-in-law Jackie Lesperance of Elk River, MN.

David was preceded in death his parents, Peter St. Clair, stepmother Mary St. Clair, and mother Diana Lesperance; four brothers: Darrel, Donald, Dennis Lesperance, and Ramsey Morin; two sisters, Gail Counts and Kaylene “Buttons” Norquay; nieces Shatenya Azure and Kalyn Aiken; three nephews, Brett Azure, Terrance Lesperance, and Anthony Azure Jr.; and brother-in-law Anthony Azure Sr.; along with many aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
