Curt Nelson, age 88 of Bottineau, died Thursday, February 20, 2020 in a Bottineau hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
Curtis Frank Nelson, a son of Leslie and Ann (Dalen) Nelson was born on June 7, 1931 in Bottineau,. He grew up near Bottineau and graduated from Bottineau High School in 1948. He joined the Army National Guard and was called to Active duty on Sept 4, 1950. He served in Korea and Japan. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Silver Star. He received his Honorable Discharge on May 28, 1952. He then attended the UND in Grand Forks and earned his BS in Chemistry. On July 7, 1960 he married Shirley Hamilton. They moved to Washington State for a time before moving to Denver. In 1982, he purchased Tech Crete and in 1985 he moved to Bottineau.
Curt was a member of the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau. He was also a member of the Bottineau VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, building houses and orphanages in the United States and Kenya.
He is survived by 2 sons, John (Maureen) Nelson of Omaha, NE; and Steven (Cynthia) Nelson of Highlands Ranch, CO; daughter, Kristi Nelson of Aurora, CO; 4 grandchildren, Cassidy London, Michael Nelson, Adam Nelson and Elise Nelson; brother-in-law, Duane Jensen and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine Dunahay and Karen Jensen.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net .
