Clifford Counts, age 41 of Dunseith, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 near Dunseith.  His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith.  His wake will be Monday starting at 6:00 pm at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith.

Clifford Martin (Herbie) Counts Jr. was born on August 12th, 1980 to Clifford Martin (George) Counts Sr. and Claudette Marie McLeod in Rolette, ND.

Herbie attended grade school and middle school at the Dunseith Indian Day School where he was active in wresting and basketball, Dunseith Public High School for some of his high school years and later obtaining his GED. After so, obtaining a few different certificates from Duluth, MN.

For some time, Herbie was employed with Bemis Construction in Killdeer, ND where he operated driving truck and several years at Truss Systems in Bismarck, ND where he used his carpentry skills and later on employed with Mayo Construction in Minot, ND. When he wasn't at work, he enjoyed spending time fishing or taking the kids fishing when he could. He loved all children and really enjoyed teasing them! He really enjoyed being a jokester to all and any. He was in love with his dads Harley, but not nearly as much as he loved to scare Paige while riding in the car with her and yelling "BANG!" He loved tinkering around outdoors and always had to have a cigarette while doing so.

He was united in marriage on July 12th, 2018 through Rolla to Paige Poitra where they began the rest of their life. Together they have one son; Canyn Micah Counts and joined as family, their children are Clifford Jr. III, Callie, Jevelyn, Chassity, Swiftyn and Dastyn. And one grandchild; Kalani Emelia Azure (Callie). Herbie also had one godchild; Tayla Belgarde.

He had many friends and always considered family to be the best thing in his life. He was proud to be Herbie Counts. He had the most beautiful smile and will always be remembered for it. He will always be missed and never be forgotten.

Herbie is survived by his wife Paige Counts, his mother Claudette McLeod, his children; Cliff Jr., Callie, Jevelyn, Chassity and Canyn, his sisters Carleen Counts, Carleeta (Jeremy) Grant and his brother Terrell (Rochelle) Counts; all of Dunseith, ND.

Herbie proceeds in death by his father George Counts, his paternal grandparents; Lloyd and Louise Counts, his maternal grandparents; Leonard and Violet McLeod, his cousins Rallan and Jason Counts, his mother and father-in-law, Donna Baker and Donald (Donny) Poitra and many aunts and uncles.

He also has a special friend whom he loves and spoke highly of: Mr. Art Crissler of Bismarck, ND.
