Obituary

Cheryl Hamel, age 70 of Westhope, died Monday at a Bottineau nursing home.  Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on a later date.

Cheryl Ann (Palmer) Hamel, a daughter of Cark and Lois (Kelly) Palmer, was born on November 16, 1947 at Westhope.  She was a homebody and daddy's little girl.  She graduated from Westhope High School in 1966.  On August 4, 1985, she married Wally (Wallace) Hamel.  They made their home in Maxbass before moving to Newburg in 2000.  Wally passed away in 2005 and Cheryl remained in Newburg.  She later moved back to Westhope after being diagnosed with cancer to be closer with family.

Cheryl was a strong supporter of the VFW Auxiliary and served as Third District Chaplin for many years.  She received her 50 year pin in 2017.  She was also a member of the Newburg Senior Citizens where she enjoyed sharing meals and playing cards.  She also delivered meals to the sick and the elderly.  She later joined to the Westhope Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her sisters, Marcy (Ron) Dahl and Paula (John) Mundt; brother, Charles (Ursula) Palmer; sister-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John and great-nephew, Ryan Palmer.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
