Obituary

Funeral services for LTC Charles Fay Amsbaugh, age 90 of Bottineau,  were held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00 am at the United Parish in Bottineau.  Officiating at the service was the Reverend Ken Mund.  Sharon Marquardt was the organist and special music was provided by Joel Beyer, Katy Demming and Luther and Kerry Olson. Military honors were presented by the Bottineau County Veterans and the North Dakota National Guard.  Honorary casket bearers were all military veterans in attendance.  Casket bearers were Mike Larson, Steve Larson, Shane Larson, Rob Larson, Art Brussau and Willie Gram.  Burial was at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Charles Fay Amsbaugh, a son of Clarence Fay and Ruth (Elayer) Amsbaugh, was born on March 4, 1927 at Bottineau.  He attended country school and graduated from Bottineau High School in 1945.  On March 22, 1945 he entered the US Army.  He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946.  He returned to Bottineau and attended college.  He also worked at the creamery and joined the National Guard.  He was called into active duty on August 22, 1950 and he served until retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel on September 30, 1969.  He was married for a time to Ruth Wruck and this marriage later ended.  He attended college in Greeley, CO and received is MA in Education and he taught in Longmont, CO for a time.  He returned to Bottineau in 1975. In 1976, he married Norma Beyer at Bottineau.  Through the years, he worked various jobs to keep himself busy.  They continued to make Bottineau their home while spending their winters  in Arizona.

Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post #42.  He was also a Mason.  He traveled the world and always had his family with him.  He enjoyed taking them on camping trips to interesting places.

Chuck passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at a Sun City, AZ hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Norma of Bottineau; daughters, Linda Amsbaugh of Florida, Carla Ogden of Colorado, Lola Amsbaugh of Arizona and Patti Rafiti of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; step-son Doug Metzger of Australia; brother; Ted Amsbaugh and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his son, Richard; sister, Ruth (Ken) Purdin; nephew, Clay Amsbaugh; niece, Tracy Baum; sister-in-law, Sharon Amsbaugh; and son-in-law, Rew Davis.
