Cecilia
Cote
Aug 9, 1933 — Jan 13, 2022
CeCilia (Celia) Mary Ann Cote (Gladue) died peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 13 th , 2022.
She was born August 9, 1933 in Poplar, MT, the daughter of Joseph (Bruno) Gladue and Mary Louise Gladue (Marion). She lived near Grenora, MT, until 1936, was in California for a short stint, and spent the majority of her life in Dunseith, ND.
Celia had some early schooling at St. Joseph Indian School, in Chamberlain, SD and graduated from Dunseith High School, class of 1951. She also had some schooling at Minot State. Her careers took her from the Jewel Plant in Rolla, to San Haven State Hospital where she worked as a nurse with tuberculosis patients, then later with mentally handicapped residents where she worked as a Resident Care Technician, then in the kitchen and finally in the office where she worked until they closed in 1988. Then she worked at Turtle Mountain Manufacturing Company (TMMC) in Belcourt, ND, where she worked for 9 years and retired in 1997.
Celia loved pinochle and enjoyed every minute of 'the win', crocheting, bowling, dancing, making wedding/birthday cakes, camping/fishing/picnicking, gardening, pickling (fresh fruits, jams), baking homemade bread, cookies and pies (especially lemon meringue pies to share), and loved talking on the phone. Her kids and grandkids and their extended friends/families were her world (so many friends/extended family called her "mom" and "grandma"). Her faith was strong throughout her life. She would often talk about how her family would hook up the horses in winter and head to St Anthony at dark so they could warm up the church before the mass at sunrise. She was a beautiful story-teller.
She met her sweetheart LeRoy, who has been with her for 63 years, happily married for 53, and had their marriage blessed by Father Mark Wheelen on May 3, 2014 at St Louis (now St Michael the Archangel church).
Celia is survived by her husband, LeRoy Cote of Dunseith, 5 children: Delores LaRocque, Mandan; Wanda LaRocque (Ken Harris), Ridgecrest, CA; Jeff (Sue) Cote, Dunseith; Tom Cote, Bismarck; and Dawn Cote, Bismarck, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and brother, Linus Gladue of Dunseith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles, Joseph Bruno jr, Frank and stillborn baby boy, sisters, Helen (Benedict) Davis, Rose (Alex) Martin, Vicky (Ed) Marion, Delia (John) Patnaude), four infant siblings, sister-in-laws, Diane Gladue (McLeod) and Shirley Gladue (Crissler), and brother-in-law, Benedict Davis and granddaughter, Courtney (Poitra) Reyes.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 2pm at St Michael the Archangel church in Dunseith with Father Michael Slovak officiating. Alvin and Ella McLeod will lead us in the rosary. Monica Nadeau and Janelle Schindele will be the readers. Gift bearers: Kristina Hickey, Kayla Cote, Mandy Cote, Autumn Trottier, Michelle Brockwell, and Kaci Triplett. Casket bearers will be Chris LaRocque, Dustin Cote, Devon Cote, Zachary Nobles, Marc Isas, Jordan Trottier and David Gladue.
A Christian burial will take place in the spring at St Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND.

A special thank you to Jennifer Davis and Bertha Schoening (nieces/daughters by extended family to mom, and Janelle Schindele (family friend) for all of your support to the family. Thank you also Father Mike and Father Anthony (Tony) for being there with mom and the family in their time of need.
