Obituary

Carolyn "Carol" Marcia Smith, 82 of Minot, passed away November 12, 2025 at a Velva nursing home.  Her funeral will be held on Friday, Nov 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the First Lutheran church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Carol was born on June 24, 1943, in Bottineau, ND to Edwin and Martha Lee.  In 1960 she married David Larson of Bottineau, ND and had three children. They operated the Four Corners Service station south of Westhope until their divorce in 1969. Carol and family moved to Minot in 1970, where she attended Minot State University and earned her Bachelor's degree in accounting. She pursued a career in Civil Service at Minot Air Force Base and attained the grade of a GS-13 as an auditor.

She was active in bowling and softball where she made numerous lifelong friends. Carol spent most of her adult life in Minot but also lived in Saskatchewan, Canada as a dual citizen for 30 years. She worked for the Provincial Government and while living in Regina she later met and married the Love of her life Jack Smith. They farmed in Moosejaw and spent 15 winters in Yuma, AZ. Jack passed away in 2015. Carol was diagnosed with ALS in 2023, and spent the last two years of her life graciously living with this terrible disease. Her generous spirit and positive outlook brightly shined to all that helped her through this difficult time. She enjoyed tremendous support from the Fargo ALS clinic, dozens of amazing care providers and along with her strong faith in Christ, kept her humor and spirit until the end.

Carol is survived by son, Johnathon (JD) Larson and his wife Brenda; daughter, Holly Larson Luther and her partner David Garcia; son, Joe Larson and his wife Irina; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

To all she knew, loved and hugged, she will be greatly missed.
