Carol Nelson, age 84 of Bottineau, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at her home in Bottineau. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Westhope Cemetery.
Carol Leone Nelson, a daughter of Leonard and Lilly (Grover) Hanson, was born on November 25, 1935 in Bottineau. She was raised in Bottineau and graduated from Bottineau High School. On October 29, 1955, she married Clinton Nelson in Great Falls, MT. They lived in Roth, Deering and then Rugby. In 1967, they moved to Bottineau. In 1969, Carol received her LPN Diploma at St. Andrew's School of Nursing. She received her Associate in Liberal Arts and Science from NDSU in 1984 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University in 1984. Clinton passed away in 2007. Carol continued to make Bottineau her home.
Through the years, she worked as a nurse at St. Andrew's Hospital, the Clinical Coordinator and Instructor of Practical Nursing at St. Andrew's Hospital, a charge nurse at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, the Director of Nursing for the Dunseith Community Nursing Home, a on call circulatory and surgery nurse for St. Andrew's Hospital, a home health nurse for Trinity Hospital and a rehabilitation specialist for Intracorp of Fargo.
Carol was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. She was active in the Sons of Norway, Turtle Mt Lodge Association, where she held numerous leadership positions. She was also a member of the American Nurses Association, the North Dakota Nurses Association, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She shared her love of music as a 25 year member of the Bottineau Community Women's Choir, First Lutheran Church Choir and Bell Choir. Her scholastic achievements included top of her class in Nursing School and High school.
She is survived by her five daughters: Joni (John), Jill, Tami (Joel), Sandra (Kyle) and Jayne, her three grandchildren: Andrew, Christina and Lauryn, and her five sisters and their families: Frances, Eunice, Olive, Doris, and Arlys.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Marc.
