Carol Gertrude Gessner was born on May 21, 1923 to Linda and Lester Becker in Upham.
She graduated from Upham High School and in June of 1942, she married Ben Gessner. They lived in the Newburg and Minot areas before moving to Seattle in 1968, where she worked for Recreational Equipment Inc (REI) until her retirement in 1989.
Ben passed away in 1994, and in 2014 Carol moved to assisted living in Snohomish, Wash., where she remained until her death.
In retirement, Carol and Ben enjoyed spending their summers in Eastern Washington fishing at O'Sullivan Dam. Carol enjoyed time with family, baking, gardening, growing flowers and crocheting. Over the years, she created hundreds of doilies and baby sweaters that she loved to share with family and friends.
Carol was a kind, loving, and accepting person whose faith was the cornerstone of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends
Carol Gertrude Gessner, age 97, passed away on June 29, in Snohomish, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ben; daughter, Lois Roberts; sons, Lester and Gerald; and grandson Jerome Scott Henderson.
Carol is survived by her daughter Laura Lynn Gessner of Burien, Wash.; sisters Jean Ann Marks of Minot, and Maxine Zorn of Bottineau; grandson, Leland Henderson; granddaughters, Lissa Knox (Bob) and Pamela Cope (Todd), all of Snohomish, Wash.; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on July 10, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bottineau. A viewing will take place an hour prior to the funeral. Burial to follow at the cemetery at St. John's Lutheran Church near Newburg.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Providence Hospice and Home Health, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500, Everett, Wash., 98201.
