Carl
Skarphol
Apr 19, 1923 — Dec 2, 2021
Carl A Skarphol passed away peacefully at the Bottineau hospital on December 2, 2021. Carl was the youngest of 11 children born to Mathias and Sigri (Dahlen) Skarphol on April 19, 1923. Carl grew up farming and took over the family farm homesteaded by his Father north of Souris at age 19 when his Father passed away. He married Sylvia L Nermyr on Nov. 15, 1944 in Souris, ND. Carl and Sylvia farmed for 45 years and raised five children before retiring and moving to Bottineau in 1989. Sylvia and Carl were married for 75 years. She passed away on October 3, 2020.
Carl will be greatly missed by his daughter, Carol (Douglas) Schiff, Surprise, AZ; and 4 sons, Ronald (Pamela), Osage, MN; Dennis (Maddi), Souris, ND; Donald (Claire), Chaska, MN, and Randy (Brenda), St. Cloud, MN; 17 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, parents, brothers George, Haakon, Jacob, Bennie, Sigurd, and Melvin; sisters Minnie Larson, Gina, Selma, Gena M. and daughter-in-law, Judeen Skarphol. He treasured his nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Carl served many years on the boards of State Bank of Bottineau, Souris School Board, Haram Township Board, Souris Elevator Board, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Souris. Carl and Sylvia attended Grace Lutheran Church after moving to Bottineau. Carl's hobby included making beautiful pieces of furniture, now treasures in the homes of his family members and at Grace Lutheran Church.
Carl will be remembered for his sense of humor, patience, kindness, and ability to fix anything. He loved his family, weekends at Lake Metigoshe, and winter get aways to Arizona but his heart was always on the home farm.
Services will be at Grace Lutheran Church in Bottineau on Tuesday, December 7 at 2 pm. Visitation at Nero Funeral Home will be Monday, December 6 from 1-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Grace Lutheran Legacy Fund.
