Carl Edward Melgaard passed away on the morning of July 21, 2026, at the age of 90 surrounded by his loved ones at St. Andrews Hospital in Bottineau.

Carl was well known for his Carpentry skills in the surrounding communities. He built their first home in the beautiful Turtle Mountains where they resided for 69 years and raised there 2 children. Carl also had a great love for music and had a talent for playing many instruments.

Carl is survived by his wife Shirley, there 2 children Wayne (Karen) Melgaard of Dunseith and Vonda (Clair) Antonson of Maddock. Grandchildren Sadie (Glen) Oppen of Towner, Anthony (Stacy) Spaeth of Pelican Rapids MN, Jason (Jami) Kuntz of TN, and Robert (Kim) Kuntz of Minot, and Boe (Adam) Howe of New York. 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandbaby on the way. His Brother Clarence (Marilyn) Melgaard. Sister in laws Arlene and Mary Knutson and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Hans and Alma, 6 brothers and 3 sisters and his brother in laws Leroy and Norris Knutson. Grandson Chris Spaeth and great grandsons Carter and Cooper Oppen and nephew, Bobby Knutson.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
