Byron
Bullinger
Dec 2, 1928 — Apr 14, 2024
Byron Bullinger, age 95 of Bottineau, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at a Minot care center. His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
Byron Carl Bullinger was born on December 2nd, 1928 at Gardena, ND to Carl and Rose (Dore) Bullinger. He and his brothers, Lyle, Ralph, Jerry and Dayton, grew up in the Gardena area, and it is where Byron lived the majority of his life.
On October 11,1950, Byron married Thelma La Violle Hett. He and Thelma moved to California in 1951 when Byron enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and they moved back to North Dakota and the Gardena area when he was discharged in 1953. They had two sons, Gregory Byron and Jay Michael Bullinger, and it at that time that Byron began his long career in farming.
Byron lived for farming, and even in the last days of his life, it was always on his mind. He and Thelma started out as small farmers with a little bit of land and some livestock, and slowly grew the farm into a successful business. It wasn't easy, and he often had to take odd jobs off the farm, like building missile bases around North Dakota, but eventually he was able to farm full-time and was active at it until he was 92 years old. Although farming kept him busy when he was younger, after his son, Jay, began farming, Byron enjoyed downhill skiing, riding his motorcycle, and being active with the other veterans in the Bottineau area. You could find him hanging out at the Veterans Hall every morning talking with his other "family" and enjoying a cup of coffee.
Byron is survived by his son, Jay Bullinger; his daughter-in-laws, Jackie Bullinger and Carol Bullinger; his grandchildren, Krystal (Jesse) Nostdahl, Nicholas Bullinger, Zachary (Justine) Bullinger, and Rachel Bullinger; his great-grandchildren: Khaliel and Sophia Abdurrahman; Bailey, Eric and Hudson Stewart; and Jace Bullinger.
Byron was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Thelma; his son, Gregory; his grandsons, Adam Bullinger and Anthony Bullinger; his brothers, Lyle, Ralph, Jerry and Dayton; and his parents, Carl and Rose Bullinger.
