Obituary

Borghild Margaret Huber, age 91, of Westhope, ND, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at a Cottonwood, AZ care center under the supervision of hospice.   A private family service will be held.  Burial will be at the Westhope Cemetery.

Borghild was born July 14, 1929 at home on the farm, near Kramer, ND to Albert and Lillie (Foss) Floberg. Growing up in the 30's was hard. The family lived in various places and she attended various schools within Bottineau county until the 8 th grade. She made the most of her childhood helping with chores and playing outside. She LOVED to dance and sing, and as a teenager she hardly missed a dance.

At age 18, it was her love for dancing that introduced her to Ershel Huber. They met at a dance and on December 31, 1948 they were married at the Bottineau Courthouse. They enjoyed going to dances together and spending time at the Huber family farm. They raised 3 sons, Dennis born in 1953, Richard in 1959 and Kip in 1962.

Throughout her life she had various waitressing jobs, working at the café and the Huber's Candak Lounge that they owned. She also worked at the Westhope nursing home as a cook and dining room attendant for a number of years before retiring to spend more time with her beloved family.

Borghild was a fantastic cook and baker, famous for her homemade buns, caramel and cinnamon rolls. She loved having company and made sure they had fresh baked goodies and a hot cup of coffee; when you came to visit you always left with a belly full. She was always smiling, laughing and singing her favorite songs or ones she made up on the fly. She enjoyed visiting on the front porch in the summers, playing scrabble, the family card games of Shanghai and Pounce. She loved going out to play bingo, where luck was often in her favor.

Borghild loved her family so passionately. Her sons were always a source of pride for her, how hard they all worked and the lives they had built for themselves. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible, picking chokecherries, frosting Christmas cookies, playing games, and teaching them Norwegian songs.

Borghild was a traveler, spending many winters in Arizona with son Richard and his family, and even flying to Costa Rica to stay with granddaughter McKenzie. She was a proud member of the VFW ladies auxiliary and in 2018 received the National Service Award for donations given to the Veterans in Defense of Liberty. Borghild was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. She had tremendous faith and throughout her life glorified god.

Borghild was the heart of the Huber family. They will forever cherish and honor the memory of her. She will truly be missed by all.

Borghild is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillie, husband Ershel, granddaughter Hayley, brothers Herman, Marvin, Leonard, Arlan, and Morris, and sister Gladys.

She is survived by sons Dennis and Kip (both of Westhope, ND), son Richard (Barb) of Clarkdale, AZ; Grandchildren Lea (Dusty) Berentson, Bismarck, ND; Joe Huber, Prescott Valley, AZ; McKenzie Gillies, Clarkdale, AZ; Kelsey (J.R.), Clarkdale, AZ; Taylor (Alex) Kolschefsky, Surrey, ND; Ashlyn Huber, Bismarck, ND; and Kade Huber, Westhope, ND; 7 great-grandchildren, sister Joyce of Texas, brothers Royce and Donald (both of Minot, ND), and several nieces and nephews.
