Obituary

Betsy Tallon age 100 of Bottineau, ND, peacefully passed away December 19, 2024 after a fulfilling and productive life.  Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.  Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be given to the First Lutheran Church or St. Andrew's Health Care Center.

Betsy was born to Haakon and Annie (Aftemhaugen) Skarphol on July 11, 1924. Betsy and her siblings grew up on the family farm near Souris, N.D. and attended grade school at Peabody School.  She graduated from Souris high school, often rooming in town during winter.

In 1942, at her parent's farm home, she married Marshall Tallon.  They farmed southwest of Souris until retiring in 1984 and buying a home in Bottineau.   After Marshall's passing in 1992 Betsy moved first to the Johnson apartments and then to Oak Manor.  In 2019 she relocated to St. Andrew's Long Term Care Center.

Betsy was thought of by many as a dear friend, a loving wife and mother. She played high school basketball, enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit family and do sightseeing, loved having the grandchildren stay with them on the farm.  She was a member of Eidsvold Homemakers for many years, 4-H Leader, belonged to St. Andrew's Hospital Auxiliary and Bottineau Historical Society.  She was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Souris and First Lutheran Church in Bottineau and she enjoyed quilting at both churches.

Betsy was preceded in death by her son, Franklin Tallon, grandson, Jason Tallon, three sisters and three brothers, and a sons-in-law, Jerry Hegdahl and Karl Krahn.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hegdahl of Crossville TN, Marjorie Krahn [Lee Kerstner] Wausau, WI; daughter-in-law, Lynn Tallon (Jerry O'Neil), Oconomowoc WI; two grandsons, Jonathon [Rebecca] Tallon, James [Beth]Tallon; granddaughter-in-law, Angie Tallon; and six great-grandsons.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her very good friend Kay Refling.

Please join us in celebrating Betsy's life -- and, as someone once said, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Andrew's Health Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Betsy over the years and especially the last the few weeks.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register at www.nerofuneralhome.net
