Obituary

Bernice (Moe) Anderson, daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Forthun) Moe, was born on May 5, 1937 on their rural Bottineau farm. The midwife was their neighbor Pettie. Her twin brother died at birth. She was raised in Bottineau and excelled in school, graduating in 1954.

Rock and roll was popular while she grew up and she loved music and dancing all her life. She met her husband Raymond Anderson at, of all places, a dance in Willow City. They married in 1955. Ray was a third generation welder-mechanic stationed on Johnston Island in the Pacific during the Korean conflict where he was exposed to hazardous chemicals. Also while there Ray experienced a head injury and this disabled him over time. They divorced in 1970.

Bernice worked at Tommy's Café in Bottineau for years. She started at 5 a.m. making coffee and opening for the day and worked until close. She then worked a second job bartending until close. She worked in customer service all her life. She had a strong work ethic with many long hours and her family was very proud of her.

Bernice was an avid reader and read hundreds of books during her life.

She loved long drives with her mother, cats and dogs, and going to the zoo. She was very good at math in her head including large numbers without using a calculator or anything else for help. When she was shopping, she knew at the checkout what she owed down to the penny.

She loved all her kids, moving to Tioga in 1982 to help care for her grandson Chris and to be closer to both her sons and grandsons. She moved back to Bottineau in 2001. In 2008 Alzheimer's started to set in and she moved into the Good Samaritan center in Bottineau where she has resided since.

Bernice Alvina Anderson succumbed to pneumonia on March 5.

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother, and ex-husband Raymond.

She is survived by her brothers: Alvin and Lloyd Moe of Bottineau; sons: Keith of Bottineau, Mike (Paulette) of Minot; grandsons: Chris of Bottineau, Scott (Tasha) of Bismarck; adopted grandchildren: Kip Reynolds and family of Fergus Falls, Minn., Sara Seely and family of Tioga and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Bottineau  on May 5, 2018 at 11:00 am with a meal to follow in the church basement. Cremation has taken place and she will be buried beside her mother at Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.
