Barbara "Barb" (Sletten) Davis was born on July 21, 1952 to Ovidia (Forde) and Olaf Sletten in Bottineau. She was the third of five children. Barb was raised and attended school in Bottineau and graduated from Bottineau High school in 1970. She went on to attend NDSU-Bottineau where she met and later married Rollie Graber of Rolette in 1971. They had 2 children, Tammy and Michael. Barb loved being a mom and was ever present in her children's lives. In 1980, Barb married Mike Davis of Rolette. They built a home together in Rolette. Their 45-year marriage was one of love, mutual respect and doting on each other. Barb often said that other than having her children, Mike was the best thing that happened to her.
Throughout her adult life, Barb worked many different jobs, but three of them made the most impact on her. The first was doing childcare in her home. She always wanted to be a teacher and the children under her care benefited from this. Her house was the place to go to learn, have fun and be loved. She kept tabs on many of the children she babysat up until she passed. The second job she loved was running the Rolette Bakery. She made a connection with so many people in the community through her baked goods, a cup of coffee and a friendly greeting. She cared for the people, kids and adults alike who came to the bakery daily. The final job she loved was her work at the Rolette Care Center. She absolutely enjoyed seeing and connecting with the residents. This connection continued into the years she spent there with her own mother.
After retirement, Barb settled into a quiet routine, spending the majority if her day at home. She was an avid reader and spent hours getting lost in a book. She also loved word games and if she wasn't reading, she was like playing one of those. She looked forward to her visits with Mike when he was home on lunch and in the evenings. She also looked forward to her daily calls with Tammy and her weekly calls with Michael and Linda. Her level of love and affection for her family was unmatched.
Barb is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mike; children, Tammy Graber (David) and Michael Graber (Linda); grandchildren, Carter Scarritt (Sophie), Anna Scarritt and Mckenzie Graber (Casey) and many grand and great grand dogs and cats; sister, Karen Larson (Larry); brothers-in-law, Ron Gust, Paul Davis (Sherry) and Terry Malo; sisters-in-law, Judy Sletten (Gerhard) and Lisa Mohl (Lance); step-siblings, Pam Ryan (Bob), Diane Sedlack and Dale Schneider (Leslie) and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Wesley Schneider; mother and father-in-law, Lydia and Ronnie Davis; sisters, Nancy Steigerwalt and Ruth Gust; brother, John Sletten; stepbrother, Allen Schneider; brothers-in-law Chester Steigerwalt; Allan Davis and Dennis Davis; sisters-in-law, Mona Davis and Joce Malo.
Barb will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her love for her family and friends and her ability to see the silver lining in every cloud. She will be greatly missed by many but especially by Mike and her children.
