Obituary

Artist James Winans, age 68 passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at his home in Dunseith.  He leaves behind his twin sister, Arlene Winans and many close friends.

Artist Winans, a son of Ignatius Winans and Leontine Rosette, was born on April 6, 1952 in New Town, ND.  At the age of 2, he moved to the St. John's Orphanage in Fargo and later graduated from Beach High School.  He then moved to Missoula, MT where he lived until recently moving to Dunseith.  Artist wasn't a man of many words but truly relished the many friends he made over the years.

He had a passion for photography, drawing and was also a professional cane maker.  His passion for drawing became a career when people asked him to do their portraits.  He also loved to design his own Native American Caps.  He enjoyed playing the slot machine and going for walks and stay fit and trim.

He is survived by his sister, Arlene Winans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and one sister.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith.  Burial will be at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Dunseith.  Following the service, lunch will be served at the East Dunseith Housing Office.
