Obituary

Alice Ihla, age 99 of Bottineau, passed away on August 31, 2020.  Visitation will be on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Alice was born on May 19, 1921 in Souris, North Dakota to Anna and Gustav Berge.  On July 6, 1941 she married Otto Ihla in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Polly and her husband Melvin.  Alice and her loving husband Otto raised their family and ran a successful farming operation near Souris.  After retiring from farming, Alice and Otto moved to Bottineau, which is where she lived until moving to Nebraska at the age of 95.  The final years of Alice's life were spent at the Papillion Manor until she passed away on the morning of August 31, 2020.

At the forefront of Alice's life were the love for her family and her unwavering Christian faith.  She was active into her 90's in numerous church organizations and charitable causes including the St. Andrews Health Center Auxiliary and Lutheran Braille Workers.  Alice was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Souris, Sons of Norway, and the First Lutheran Church of Bottineau.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Otto, son Gary, siblings and spouses Art Berge, Olaf and Gladys Berge, Polly and Melvin Haugen, Rosie and Orlan Tollefson, Gordon and Gen Berge, Jo and Ray Kornkven, and John Woods, and parents Gustav and Anna Berge.

Alice is survived by her daughter Bonnie Goduto, grandchildren Steph and Dan Hughes and Tom and Gwen Goduto, great-grandchildren Megan Hughes, Bryce Hughes, Cole Goduto and Connor Goduto, sisters Helen Woods and Julie Vinje, and sisters-in-law Arlene Berge and Delores Berge, and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff of Papillion Manor for the love and care they provided to Alice in her final years.

Finally, we want to thank Mom/Grandma for all of the lessons, blessings, and love she gave us throughout her incredible life.
