Peder Oliver Dunderland

Died: February 02, 2013

U.S. VeteranOliver Dunderland, age 81 of Lake Metigoshe, died Saturday at his home. Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at the Christian Center at Lake Metigoshe. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Memorials are preferred to: Lake Metigoshe Ministries; St. Andrews Hospital or to Compassion International.

Peder Oliver Dunderland, a son of Peder and Olga (Hagen) Dunderland was born on April 15, 1931 at Bottineau. He graduated from Bottineau High School and attended the School Of Forestry in Bottineau before joining the USMC on March 21, 1952. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was discharged on July 23, 1953. On August 25, 1956 he was united in marriage to Estella Jean Larson at Clearbrook, MN. Oliver and Estella settled in Bottineau where they raised two children, Paul and Julie. He began working as a carpenter for a local contractor and later established his own carpentry and painting business. He built many homes and did commercial painting in and around Bottineau. He later worked as a rural mail carrier.

He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Bottineau where he served on the church council and helped with various remodeling and painting projects. He supported Lake Metigoshe Ministries by serving on the Board of Directors provided countless hours of labor to various project, including the Pelican Dome, the Life and Growth Deck and the Jimbo Chapel. He was a charter member of the Club De Skinautique and built the first boat used by the organization. He was on the first Board of Directors that established the Bottineau Winter Park. He touched the lives of many Boy Scouts while serving as Scout Master of Troop #528. During which time seven scouts attained the Eagle Rank. Oliver also served on the Bottineau City Council and was active in the Bottineau Wildlife Club and the Metigoshe Lions Club.

Oliver enjoyed elk hunting in the Rocky Mountains, deer hunting, fishing in Canada, flying, traveling to Florida, motorcycle trips, boating and spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren. He lived his life loving God and making the most of everyday given, by working on his endless projects, taking time to visit with everyone who stopped and spoiling his dog, Charlie Girl.

He is survived by his wife, Estella; son, Paul (Kari Ann) Dunderland of Bottineau; daughter, Julie (Fred) Damico of Lakeville, MN; granddaughter, Chelsie (Jon) Word; grandsons, Michael Dunderland, Sam Oliver Damico and Cody Damico; sister, Alma (Victor) Knutson of Minot and Gladys (Floyd) Lenhardt of Woodburn, OR and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Pearle Carlson.
