Bernice W. Akerlind, age 89 of Bottineau, died Tuesday at a Bottineau hospital. Funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Lesje Lutheran Church near Souris. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Bernice Winifred Akerlind, a daughter of Alvin and Bertina (Lee) Boreson, was born on May 8, 1923 at Landa. She was reared there and graduated from Landa High School in 1941. She attended business college in Minot for a year and then was employed by the Westhope Bank. On November 23, 1947, she married Wallace Akerlind, the love of her life, at Landa. They lived on the farm north of Roth where the lived and raised there two children. Bernice entered the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center on October 15, 2009.
Bernice was a member of the Free Church in Landa and later the Lesje Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid. Their dog, Daisy was always under the table waiting for a treat from Bernice. Her family would always tell that she wasn’t supposed to feed Daisy, but she would slip her a treat anyway.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace of Souris; son, Bradley of Souris; daughter, Carol (Art) Lund of Bottineau; 2 granddaughters, Amber (Grant) Coauette of Bemidji, MN and Heidi (Barett) Eng of Larimore, ND and a sister, Margorie Jordheim of Glenwood City, WI.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Allen and Duane.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
